Variational Pragmatics of German
Our linguistic research project "Variational Pragmatics of German - Comparison Communicative Patterns" examines regional differences in the use of communicative patterns within the German-speaking region. It is a widespread assumption that such differences exist. It is also assumed that differences in communicative behavior repeatedly lead to misunderstandings and irritations between people from different regions. The project investigates these questions by examining linguistic routines in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, both on a cross-national and national level. Researchers from Freie Universität Berlin, Bielefeld University, PLUS Salzburg, and the University of Zurich are involved in the project.
